Atmospheric Plasma for

High-Performance Manufacturing

Atmospheric plasma systems are used by manufacturers who are:

  • In need of a way to control surface quality during the production process
  • Preparing or cleaning material surfaces prior to bonding, coating, sealing, printing or painting applications
  • Activating material surfaces with low-surface energy to successfully receive a coating, paint or print
  • Depositing materials or coatings onto material surfaces

Benefits of using atmospheric plasma:

  • Precision Placement: The equipment is specially designed for the process of selectively modifying surface chemistry without affecting another surface in close proximity.atmospheric_plasma_systems

  •  Delicate: Atmospheric plasma includes easily controlled parameters that allow users to process low surface energy materials that are sensitive to damage from electrostatic discharge.

  • Flexible: Atmospheric pressure plasma is suitable for a wide range of applications and materials: For example in the cleaning and activation of polymers, metals, ceramic, glass, and composite.

  • High-Volume: Systems are optimized for high-volume plasma treatment of communication device surfaces in manufacturing.

  • Flexible Implementation: Atmospheric pressure plasma systems are suitable for use with robots and for integration into existing, automated production lines.

How Atmospheric Plasma Systems Are Used

  1. The atmospheric plasma system moves across the part or material via robot or other automated process and the system exposes the surface area to a stream of ionized gas plasma.atmospheric-plasma-treatment

  2. The speed and distance of the applicator from the part/material determine how much the surface is modified, therefore the amount of treatment the target area receives.

  3. While the plasma cleans and activates the surface on a molecular level, an additional cleaning effect is provided by blowing away loose contaminant particles that might be present on the surface.

  4. Atmospheric plasma systems allow for a truly continuous plasma process. The plasma applicator is connected to the supply unit with a flexible cable that allows for easy integration into existing robotic-controlled manufacturing lines or moving the plasma source relative to the part.
