ATMOSPHERIC PLASMA

Atmospheric Plasma Function

With PlasmaBeam, the system operates without a chamber. Instead, the plasma is being generated within a nozzle (the plasma applicator) and expelled by a jet of compressed air. As a result, the procedure is limited to small in-line applications.

While the plasma cleans and activates the surface, the jet provides an additional cleaning effect by blowing away loose particles. Atmospheric plasma systems allow for a truly continuous plasma process. The plasma applicator is connected to the supply unit with a flexible line, which allows for easy integration into existing robotic controlled manufacturing lines.

Atmospheric Plasma Applications

Since the width covered by the PlasmaBeam is limited, it is optimized for all processes in which small to medium areas have to be treated. The plasma activator prepares surfaces prior to procedures such as

Atmospheric plasma surfaces generally show improved adhesion:

  • Removal of oxide layers on metals prior to welding and soldering leads to joints with improved stability and better corrosion resistance.
  • With polymers such as PTFE and PVC, gluing and bonding becomes possible without the need for a chemical primer.

Compared to chemical priming procedures, atmospheric plasma, or Plasma Beam, is occupationally safe and produces no toxic wastes or emissions. Thus it is not only environmentally friendly, but is easy on your budget, too.
