Base Materials For Printed Circuit Boards

The set standard for the materials to make a Printed Circuit Boards (PCB) are copper foil, laminates, cooper-clad laminates and resin impregnated B-stage cloth (Pre-preg).

The materials listed above are most commonly ordered materials by manufacturers to produce PCB.  Other exotic materials and manufacturing procedures can be used to make the specific PCBs.

Laminates are the material of choice because of their unique properties, making great, efficient power and ground planes for the board. The copper foil is to insure that the circuit has a medium to transport electric signals through a metal with high electrical conductivity.  The resin impregnated cloth makes sure that the completed circuit board should have a uniform thickness.
